Update On My Question On Scam E-Mail

13:04 Thu 06th Apr 2023 went to the sorting office to day with my "scam" e-mail and it turned out to be just so
it was a letter with no name on just to the "house holder" written by hand in what could be called very old persons writing . quite shaky, the customer services guy said he's had these before and it's from Jehovah's witnesses, needless to say i said bin it

So was it a letter sent through Royal Mail without the proper postage (perhaps an old stamp without the barcode) or was it a scam to diddle you out of your money and get your card details?
By the way - it wasn't an email , it came through your letterbox.

I have had these letters from Jehovah's Witnesses, always addressed to 'Dear Neighbour'. They started during Covid when they could no longer go door knocking and are always polite and friendly, inviting me to telephone a number if I wanted to find out more or just have a chat.
They did put a correct stamp on the envelope though.

What puzzled me was that you said and confirmed that it came through your letter box from a postman. Now you say it's an email

Was a letter not an email missterious...just a typo /error by Nero....it was a letter from jehovas witnses with no postage paid.

Well that's simple enough surely? JW's re not going to know names on most letters they send out, so address letters to 'householder'.

Of course there should have been postage on the letter, that goes without saying, but nobody has tried to scam you.

They may have put an 'old' stamp on it that didn't have the barcode. They are no longer valid but people do make mistakes.

I promise you it was not a scam. They send these letters out in batches, they don't buy mailing lists like marketing companies do, so don't have your name. Had you paid the money to Royal Mail Jehovah's Witness would not have got that money and wouldn't even know if you'd paid up or not.

I've had at least two hand written letters from Jehovah's Witnesses addressed to the householder or similar. I don't know what they were about as I didn't read them but they were quite long, two sides of the paper. At least the postage was correct. I wouldn't call them a scam.

We had one last week. We just put them in the recycling bin and forget about them. They are harmless enough.

We have a kingdom hall in our very small Parish of 54 dwellings over a large area to be honest we have never been approached by them or had any letters or information. Certainly no problems. I would gladly talk to them if they came round, but they just don't.

Not a scam then, just junk mail with inadequate postage.
