Is This Thyroid Tsh Level Anything To Worry About?

Hello, I wondered if anyone could offer any input.

A month ago I had an extensive set of blood tests done due to some symptoms to rule out connective tissue disease. The consultant said these were all negative apart from a slightly high TSH, he said it was normal really but he would let my gp know anyway.

The level of TSH was 5.85 and T4/T3 were normal.

I googled and normal reference range tends to be up to 5.3

I did happen to have a blood test 10 months ago and I have checked TSH was 2.7

For anyone who knows about thyroids, do you think this is something to worry about/keep an eye on?

A TSH of 5.85miu/L is probably in the subclinical hypothyroidism range and will simply need monitoring, although Sqad should be able to confirm this when he pops by.

I agree with ladyCG, no big deal at the moment, no treatment required apart from yearly monitoring.

When I had my Serum TSH level checked in Jan this year it was 6.44mu/L.
According to my record book, it's supposed to be between .27-4.20, so my Thyroxine was increased.
I've to go this coming Friday to have it done again.
Might not be anything for you to worry about, but I think your GP should keep an eye on it.

Ok well thanks. What tends to happen then do the levels usually increase over the years until you need medication

What is the chance of them returning back to normal, if any?

If the T3/4 levels are normal then the TSH is doing it's job. If the TSH increases again and the T3/4 are not normal then you might be put on medication eventually.

Ok so I am hoping it settles but time will tell.
Is sqad a doctor, bet he gets fed up with questions all the time on here haha
