I've got 550 entries for a dog show, and 20 of those are postal (as opposed to online) so what percentage is that please? As always please don't try to explain as it goes right over my head and my eyes glaze over! TIA for those who understand.

Near enough thanks.
I'm not going to explain how to do it, and I definitely don't want to discourage you from asking these questions here. But I *did* want to mention that I copied your first sentence, verbatim, into Bing search, and its chatbot was able to solve it!

Could be fun to test this in future with more of your questions. But as the recent chatbots are notoriously hit-and-miss when it comes to basic maths, please do keep on asking here -- I just thought it might be fun to mention.
(Note, you might have to click the "Chat" button near the top, and it only seems to work on Microsoft Edge for now.)

The only thing I understand less than maths is computers!
20 entries out of 550 is 20 / 550, to get the % just multiply that by 100. 20/550x100 = 3.6%
Key words in a % question are 'out of', use that to create a fraction then x by 100.
Alternatively, on a calculator do 20 / 550 % =, should give the right answer
Make up a few and try it, you may surprise yourself!

makes as much sense to me as that does to someone who is dyslexic. Why can't people just accept that some of us are unable to fathom mathematical problems and get upset when made to feel we are stupid when others tell you how easy it is.

If someone asks you what day it is do you tell them there are seven days in a week so you just have to work out which days have already gone and which have still to go then that will tell you what day it is today? Or do you just tell them what they are asking?
^^^ I only rarely know what day it is, Lankeela ;-)

Me neither since retiring.
