Just how much damage is being done to large and small businesses. In this case a very small business but a very successful one.
The owner of a cafe who's been trading for 8 years, not to far from me that had about 10 covers to include outside space, left this notice on the window. Quote, Thanking all the customers that made the business successful, and it breaks me up to have to close, I've been battling massive overheads now for many months, but sadly its become impossible to carry on, with the loss of 4 wonderful part time workers that have been with me from the very first day of opening.

To give you some idea of the many overheads that have increased over the past few months, is the one of energy. My monthly energy bill now exceeds my monthly rent.

I don't know how the fish and chip shops, budget cafes, launderettes and hairdressers have coped with the increased fuel costs.

They either offer less for the same money or raise their prices. It's all they can do.

15.46 I dont think many are coping, more like just hanging in there hoping things will get better. I was talking to the owner of the said cafe some time back, before the summer, she was hoping for a summer boost in the hope of hanging on, but like we all know summer has been a washout. Outside covers have remained empty for far to many weeks.
