It would be much better if it was restricted to "common" words and didn't allow stupid plurals. Will have a go later anyway, restricted by bad leg at the moment.

I make up words, using words I know and adding letters before, after and both.  Surprised how often that works, especially if the letters include l e s r n - is it cheating?

Made a reasonably quick list of possible word I knew, worked out best use of bonus, didn't try any made up as far as I was concerned words

That's how I do it Perseverer.  I just postwords I recognise.  I just did better this morning, by thinking more about alternatives to the obvious three letter ending today that took over.
