Are you sure its non mathematical?

If you take alternate numbers 1 4 7 and 3 5 8

1 4 7 increase by three each time making the next number 10.

3 5 8 increase byt 2 then 3, logically the next one would be 4 making the next number 12.

Thank you BriWrite,

I saw the pattern too, but all of the other number sequence questions in the quiz I'm working on (which I realise you won't have seen) have a "non-mathematical" reason behind the answer.

Examples

  • 20, 1, 18, 4, 13, 6,... answer 10, 15 (reason -numbers on a dartboard).

  • 1,3,5,7,8,... answer = 10, 12 (reason - months with 31 days in them). NB -This is very similar to the question I am stuck on, so maybe there's a clue - although I wouldn't really expect 2 questions of a similar nature in the same quiz.
9, 2 ( a popular song, forget who it was by, but started "One, three, four, five, seven, eight nine - which is your next number") ,then added "two, four, six, eight, never too late" -oh, just found it, it's the Tom Robinson Band
So 9 and 2 is the answer (see previous post)
