In the last few years, me and a few pals usually go abroad for New Year. Being the sad Brit-tourists that we are our criterion are usually based on 1) has to be warmer than UK and 2) not extortionate beer prices, which usually means we settle on Canaries. If your of similar mind then I can definitely recommend Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote....has Old and New Town areas so nightlife to suit most tastes and a great firework show. If you're not so bothered by weather conditions, Fuengirola (on Costa del Sol) has a great New Years party in the town square which goes on till about 7.00am. Hope this helps !

My wife and I spent this New Year's Eve in Tallinn, Estonia. It was a fantastic night - we ate in a medevial beautiful restaurant, and then went out to the Old Town Square. There were people everywhere, drinking champagne around the Christmas Tree and letting off fireworks. Probably one of the best New Year's Eves that I've had.

Stayed with friends in a beach house near Cape town. good fun, once you got used to there being Christmas trees in the sunshine. The firework letting off on the beach was very random though!

Hi luckystrike, we crossed posts before about Tallinn. How was the three sisters, where did you eat out?

I was in Rome this New Year (very wet). I'd say on reflection that I prefer the smaller Italian towns and cities, Verona, Venice, Florence etc.

I too, am keen to hear any suggestions for alternative New Year destinations, anyone tried Las Vegas?

my wife and i went to agadir morocco for nrew year

We had a brilliant time all in all.

The Three Sisters was fantastic I was actually surprised at how close it was to the Old Town, and the dander down Pikk was always a pleasure! They were kind enough to give us complimentary transport to and from the airport, and dropped us down when we took the catamaran to Helsinki for the day. I was really glad that we chose it over Schlossle. Our room over looked Pikk and it was amazing how many times we saw cameras flashing from outside.

We ate in Peppersack and Olde Hanse for the medieval touch, and had a very nice meal in Fellinis, an Italian restaurant overlooking the Square. We didnt really have lunch, only a bar snack or a tray bake on the move.

Bar wise we checked out Hell Hunt, Molly Malones, Caf Moskva, Stereo, Euro Caf, Bar with no Name, and plenty of others!

Next year it looks like were going to head to Krakow.

Thanks for your interest!

Luckystrike, I think we must have been seperated at birth!

I'm off to Krakow next weekend. Hotel Wentzl, in the square in the old town (rooms with a view), will let you know how it goes.

We ate at the same restaurants too by the looks of things, loved the beer. Glad you had a good time.

stevie_c2it, that's uncanny!

Please let me know how it all goes - I'll keep checking this thread.

Have a good weekend, and lots of tasty Polish beer...
