Can you give an example of what you mean?

Of course it does.

please explain, "A" is a letter.

It will depend on the quiz & any special instructions it has.

As far as I'm aware, an apostrophe - ' - would not usually count as a separate letter.  I don't do many quizzes, but have seen setters instruct to "ignore any apostrophes" before.

In my experience an apostrophe would not count as a letter, but check any instructions on the quiz.

Got you. I thought you mean a letter A like in A DOG. I know realise you mean an' (i.e. an apostrophe).

Crosswords don't include an apostrophe in the letter count and don't expect you to write one in anywhere. But a quiz setter should specify.

Can you give an example?

Ignore my extra K- I meant "now realise you mean an' (i.e. an apostrophe)."

Ignore my first response, I assumed you meant the letter A.

Sorry everyone, I should have put the word Apostrophe. I am doing the Lions Quiz and cannot find anything on the quiz sheet as to whether it counts or not. Perhaps I will need to get in touch with them. Thank you to everyone for your help though, much appreciated.

generally punctuation does not occupy a letter in crosswords.

Of course the use of an apostrophe to cover for a missing letter needs to be conventional (e.g. shouldnt, wont) and not one you have made up to lose a let'er 😁

It is a character but not a letter.

I doubt many, if any, puzzles or quizes count it.

The quiz I am doing is called All at Sixes and Sevens. The question is Donald Sutherland movie 7,6 letters. I had Kelly's Heroes but two other films comply with the question. Eminent Domain and Without Limits. It is hard to know which one to pick!

To throw a spanner in the works - "Milton's Secret" would be in the mix if discounting apostrophes.  "Kelly's Heroes" only works if apostrophes are counted.

Assuming he was in all those, then from the sound of it, it seems a poor question to ask.

unless stated ignore punctuation. Are there no crossing letters? If not you need to get corroboration by getting one you do know that confirms a letter.

TTT, it's a quiz, the answers won't be in a crossword-like format, so crossing letters are out.

It's just a quiz where all answers have 6 and/or 7 letter answers.

then any answer that fits is valid is there no further specification offered for the DS film.

Does it say apostrophies count? are ther other questions that show they do/do not?

Sounds like an amateur setter to me
