This is a real photo postcard.

I am trying to work out where this photo was taken.  The bottom half of the text has been chopped off.  It is from 1916.

Can anyone work out the final word?

"Burnt Ash Hill from ??? Road"

Heather.

It's in south-east London

Yeah. You can see it on the google maps.

Thanks to all three of you.

I believe there is only one Burnt Ash Lane in the UK (according to Streetmap, anyway). This is a view of that junction today:

Looks like "C H Carter" in your postcard is now "Your Local" whilst the Coal & Coke Merchant's on the other corner has been converted to residential use. The grey car is emerging from Heather Road on to Burnt ash Hill, which runs left to right on the GSV.

^^^Unfortunately AB has chopped that URL in half. You'll need to copy/paste it into your browser.

It looks as though the picture was taken from Senlac Road rather than Heather Road

Agreed. That threw me a bit but there is nothing on the opposite corners (i.e on the junction with Senlac Road) whilst the buildings on the corners of Heather Road match the postcard perfecly.
