Restoring Faith In Human Nature

A nice little story.  One of the wind-surfing community my husband knows came adrift from his very expensive board which duly went sailing off by itself in the North Sea.  A month later he got a message from someone in Denmark to tell him his board had washed up on their local beach.

Had anything restored your faith in human nature?

^^ with 15 illegal immigrants on it. 🤣

My faith in human nature has never needed restoring.

But I have many examples of authenticating my belief, not least the time I fell down in the street - I was overwhelmed by people's kindness (and a bit embarrassed too).

Wow! How did they know it was his board Naomi? x

Canary - yes people can often be extremely kind when you need it x

Once I fell in the street also. It was a homeless man who helped me up.

Another time I slipped on ice...perfectly fit young men just walked by or stared as I struggled to get up.

In anticipation of such an eventually, smow - not unknown - apparently they write their contact details on their boards.

I never got my lost Tilley hat back even though it had my contact details written inside. Someone in Calgary has it!

Yes, but did the windsurfer get his board back?

The helpful Dane popped it into the sea when the tide turned saving a fortune in freight charges.

Those who got help after slipping in the street were lucky. Whilst on holiday in Malta, I slipped when I was walking on a sloping surface in Spinola Bay and suddenly slipped onto my right side. I put my arm out and when I hit the floor I thought I'd broken my shoulder. I lay there in agony, unable to get up with everyone walking past and just looking strangely at me. I had to ask a couple to help me up, so no help forthcoming until I asked from the floor.

It was extremely painful and was really difficult to pack my case and travel home. On examination, nothing was broken but all the tiny muscles and ligaments in my shoulder had been torn and the doc said the only cure was time, which he reckoned was 2 years but I was back playing golf after 6 months. Still a long time with a dodgy shoulder. I still feel the effects of it today.

Could be expensive to go over and collect it.

Far more expensive to buy a new one, OG.  Serious surfers pay thousands for their boards.

I'd have thought if they were really serious that they'd stay on and keep a grip of the thing.

not least the time I fell down in the street -

no someone pulled pram over me - well I was on the pavement and in the way!

I returned the house keys ( which I kinda recognised) to a dissatisfied demanding ( oirish) tenant and she was JUST able to say thanks froo gritted teeth. Gosh soon forgotten. You dont do these things for gratitude

BUT I do greet the lady who found MY  house keys, every time with a loud: "There is the lady who saved me £500 when she found my house keys!"

she  purrs like a pussy cat

I put my arm out and when I hit the floor

this is Fooshing ( Fell on out-stretched hand) two forms FOROSH (fell on rt outstreetched hand) etc

usually involves radius and ulna

in fact you had a ( severe) rotator cuff injury - lots of ops that dont work...

They don't hold on to it, Douglas, they stand on it - their hands hang on to the kite ropes.

I remember when my Mum told me she slipped over in the ice and snow about 20 odd years ago. As she laid there hoping someone would help her up, a man walked by, looked diwn at her and said, "Funny sort of a day isn't it?" 😆 Eventually, someone did help her up. She wasn't hurt, just her pride, but we used to have a good laugh at said man's funny attitude! Lol

Aye, but that's not windsurfing.

Question Author

My mistake. I should have said kite surfing.

Question Author

Although that said, windsurfers stand on their boards so I imagine some of those are washed out to sea too.
