just mopping up now and am unsure on a couple after cross checking with a friend two conflicting answers

Veteran Hammer (5,10) Clive Wigginton or Teddy Sheringham

Captain turned Commentator (7,8) Michael Atherton or William Beaumont

I do know that Mike Platt who sets the questions is a big cricket fan!!

All surnames are places in the uk

Well Sheringham and Atherton are much better known place names than the other two (I had to look them up to confirm they exist - they do).

Maybe Mike's going to have to accept that there are multiple answers - in which case giving both would score.

Beaumont was never really known as William --he was Billy to everybody.So I think its unlikely to be him.
