It needs to fit into the following clue for a place or attraction in the South Kensington part of London:
Take a nautical word for the wind <UNKNOWN>, expressing joy <IO> and type of slightly leavened Indian bread <NAN or NAAN> and stir (anagram).
All definitions are worded according to Chambers Dictionaries.
Hi mike. To begin, I believe that this "IO" is used in the same way as "Hi Ho" (as used by The Lone Ranger and Seven Dwarves).
The next thing to understand is that this Quiz uses definitions straight out of Chambers Dictionary. Looking up Naan or Nan we read: "a type of slightly leavened bread, as baked in India and Pakistan". This is exactly as in the clue.
Whilst looking up names of moons and asteroids, I came across the following entry by chance: io, "of invocation, or expressing joy or triumph or grief." It is not a certainty by any means, but it is likely that the setter of this Quiz needs the anagram to contain the obscure word io.
I have been exploring things about PADDINGTON, as it contains the words IO and NAN - but with no success!
geo0939 As with other Quizzes, we don't know how many letters in the answer. I first got hooked helping out olivia. The Quiz starts at Matlock and visits 100+ places before arriving back in Matlock 7 days later!
It begins 1. Coaster, clench =MAT+ LOCK
2.Take to kill and something to restrain the hair then mix = TANSLEY (anagram of SLAY + NET)
And so the journey moves south to London!
Hi olivia and mazie, Yes, I agree that Q62 and Q76 appear to have identical answers. This is also true for Q53 and Q58 - and part of Q54! (Look up the word "col") I have just noticed Q64 and Q75 as well!
I am not yet convinced about the "Victoria and Albert". ( I would be looking for TWO N's)
Q33 has HOTEL as part of the answer!
As for CATHEDRALS, bishops sit on THRONES!
As for Q82, look up the verb "to win"!
