My latin lessons of sixty years ago are in the dim & distant past, but I think this is along the lines of :- divide & rule

Further to earlier. The Heraldry Society have translated it as:- Hopeful & Fulfilled

I think there is a mistake somewhere.

If we take "sepEratum" as written, it may be 2 words = sepe ratum = think or regard the fence + "et completum"!

If we assume "sepAratum et completum" we have two verbs = separare & complere, that translate to:

divide, distinguish; separate
AND ("et")
fill (up/in); be big enough to fill; occupy space, crowd; furnish/supply/man; finish, complete, perfect; make pregnant; fulfill, make up, complete, satisfy;

Take your pick and "Divide and Complete" could maybe be stretched to "Divide and Conquer". Tho' I quite like the "divide and make pr******" option.
