The answer is ENTHRAL = anag of LEARNT with H (harbour) hiding inside.

The whole word is ENTHRAL = EN-TRANCE (put in a trance) rather than ENTRANCE (gate)

Doesn't the setter mean harbour entrance ie the first letter or 'entrance' to the word harbour - H ?

kayakamina It is certainly possible that the word "entrance" means "first letter", but then you are lacking a definition for the answer!

Sometimes a word like "entrance" can carry both meanings and is intended to be applied twice. I think it is called an "allusion" - and such clues do not appear too often!
