Summers = To add up = Totters?

I think the answers is 'totters'- a term for rag and bone men' and totting up is the same as adding up- hence summers'

On the same theme, several years ago I saw a clue which read: Summer danger (6) The answer = ADDER! It's funny how some clues are remembered over many years!
