For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.If this is the normal sort of add the numbers question, then the answer is assuredly not 22.
For example it is arguable that the first line doesn't contain any numbers, only letters.
Alternatively (or additionally) the first line contains some roman numerals - exactly how many and what they are depends on how you divide them up and whether you reuse for example the I in several numbers (I, IV,VI, etc).
What about the numbers 1 2 3 and 4 in the second line - do you add these instead of or as well as the result? If so how many combinations of them do you use?
and so on
There are so many possible variations that stumbling on the one the quiz master has decided on (assuming he even added it up right in the first place) is a matter of chance.
If you have the answer it can be quite a challenge if not impossible to wotk out how it was arrived at.
