48d APOGEE
28d comedown = a disappointment
Question Author

Thanks pega - I thought I was fairly well-read and had a reasonable vocabulary, but must admit I've never heard of the word apogee! According to my thesaurus, it doesn't really mean the same as culmination, but it wouldn't be the first time that a crossword clue has been a bit tenuous! As for comedown - it's obvious when someone tells you, isn't it - I just couldn't see it!

Hi Crystal Tips I haven't started my Times Jumbo yet still on Polymath.... after all the W/end issues. I don't know if you use one Look dictionary it takes you to other sites and encarta is excellent if you type in Culmination it gives you words and Apogee is there if its any help. Have done the Times crosswords for many years and would love to win just to get name in The Times. Before I had this laptop did it with wordchecker and Dictionaries they do come up with some weird words and lately have found clues a bit confusing grey cells must be going ! good luck. K
