london_lassy I think that the "8" in your clue refers to the answer to Clue 8. Have you solved it? That should provide the first word in your answer - then it's "BY NOTHING"

Thanks for your help crofter, I did wonder about 'clue 8', but I think the answer is 'come to nothing'
