I have regularly completed various national newspapers general knowledge crosswords for some years without any success. For instance I consider I have completed the DT GK correctly for the past four years but with no mention in dispatches. Will it ever happen?

You've got to be in it to win it, so if you stop sending it it you will never win.

here's hoping that we will win one day

We have been doing it for probably 10 years - well since it started I think - and have never won anything. We stopped sending it in a couple of years ago. So I console myself with the thought of all the postage we are saving. :-)
I have entered the MoS and the Sunday Express crosswords virtually every week for what seems like forever - with no success. However, I have won something from the Guardian, the MoS You magazine, the Skeleton and the Radio Times - but that's only 4 in 25 years! I do wonder how anyone manages to win the 'big' ones! We just have to keep trying I suppose.
I have two friends who singulary have won the Sunday Mail and Express crossword. Both have been doing them for about 20 years.I would think the odds on winning are about 20000 to 1

I won a fountain pen on the Sir Lancelot Mail on Sunday crossword last year, and a couple of local paper crossword prizes, but the likelihood of winning is very remote. Still, if you don't try, you'll never win anything!

I used to do competitions years ago which relied on a witty or apt phrase, and I won a few minor prizes then, but I've never become obsessed as some people do. (I'm still using the filter coffee machine I won.) It's just a bit of fun to me. I prefer to wait for my big lottery or premium bond win!!!!! And pigs might fly, I hear you say!

i have been entering comps since i was 7 when i won a prize of1 in a comic i'm 42 now still comping and still winning somtimes you go for ages with no prize other times you get loads at once just keep plucking away at em . YOU GOTTA BE INIT TO WINIT

just as a footnote to spur you on my best prize cash win was 5000

I started entering crosswords about three years ago and have been lucky enough to win the Telegraph saturday General Knowledge, the Telegraph Sunday General knowledge (before they stopped it!), the times Saturday cryptic, the Observer cryptic and the Times Annual Sports Crossword for 2004.

So there must be hope for everyone!

Good luck

I've been doing the Sat Tel. GK crossword now and again for about 18 months. I received a runners up Almanack within the first 3 months, so it does happen.

I can't remember how many years I've been sending them in (a lot) but I have won the Mail on Sunday and also the Sunday Telegraph nature crossword which made a brief appearance some years ago.
I've won the DK General Knowledge crossword in the last year. Have been doing it for years though. Also won runner-up. You can't imagine the feeling when you see your name next to the 'First prize'!
12 years & still entering MoS, Sat & Mon torygraph GKs, & Sunday Diana (blimey, she wasn`t on today`s Cover!) without success. I reckon the odds @ about 40,000/1, but someone has gotta win it, innit?!
RE. Diana and the Express, what is it with that paper?? Are they obsessed? Virtually every day there is a photo of Diana on the front. I had meant to count from the beginning of the year how many days they could go in a row without picturing her on the front but forgot.
