Write the numbers in words, List them in alphabetical order

I think I've seen this before - is it 6?
Question Author

I now have four answers to my question, none of which I understand. I have never considered myself to be a genius but I do have some brains. PLace them in alphabetical order, then what?? Also how do you arrive at six ?? Be obliged for some explanation Sidley.

If I understand gen2's answer correctly, write the numbers as words - 1=ONE, 2=TWO, etc.

You asked which one was tenth, so I've assumed we're working with numbers 1 through 10. So we've got ONE, TWO, THREE....TEN

Now put them alphabetically -

EIGHT, FIVE, FOUR, NINE, ONE, SEVEN, SIX, TEN, THREE, TWO.

It looks like the number you want is 2.

sidley Spell out the first ten numbers and arrange the words in alphabetical order. They go E<A>ight, Five, Four, Nine, One, Six, Seven, Ten Three and finally Two ... from the sequence of letters E Fi Fo N O Si Se Te Th Tw.

Hence 8 is first, 5 is second, etc. and last in the sequence is the number 2 (which is tenth).

I knew I should have learned my alphabet!!!!
