An odd thing about crosswords . .

Both my sister and I have noticed this - when stuck with a clue and typing the letters and spaces into a crossword solver, very often as soon as we have typed them in, and before hitting "enter", the answer suddenly becomes obvious. I have a friend in Ireland who says the same thing.

I wonder why? Something odd about how our minds work?

So its NOT just me then !!
Also when im stuck for ages ,then go away for 5 mins , come back and the answer just jumps out at me ! ( honest )

how strange ...
I agree avis, it happens to me . I have a little aid ,like an electric thesaurus, and a lot of the time when I type in the letters I want it suddenly appears to me before I press enter. Can't explain it , but I thought it only happened to me!!
The opposite effect-when you consciously attempt an"automated"task and fluff it is interesting(if a bit embarrrassing) too.Counting well trodden stairs and falling at the bottom step is commonly reported.v.odd...
My friend and I do the telegraph cryptic, and can be stuck for ages. Then as soon as one of us says 15down, for example, the other one gets it immediately. Weird. Ruth.
