A solution to the pen/pencil dilemma??

If you fill in your crossword in pen, you might make a mistake and have to tippex it out. If you fill it all in in pencil, you can rub out the errors, but then you have to go over the whole thing in pen again, which is boring.

This weekend I bought an erasable pen! They are made by papermate, and seem to work quite well. The ink is supposed to remain erasable for 24 hours (but reacts differently to different types of paper).

Funny how such trivial things can brighten one's day!

I always photocopy the grid and fill the copy in first, then when I'm sure about it, transfer the answers to the original. It does mean filling it out twice, but at least it doesn't matter if you make a mess of the copy.

I keep the copy for a few days, too, so I can help anyone on here who asks about a clue after I've posted my entry.

Hello avis 50 its interesting about papermate pen, I remember when they first came out and was advised not to use to write cheques didn;t know were still around, Iike Big Jenny I photocopy grid but I always did in pencil before I had the photocopier. and inked in with rollerball pen. Does the papermate work OK on the newspaper ? Good luck.

Me too always photo copy all the quizes I do. Keep a copy and the fill in the orinal with pen to post(if I bother posting it).

The pen worked fine on newspaper crosswords, slightly less well on the Mail on Sunday magazine one, and not at all well on theSunday Express magazine one.

I always use pencil. Then just fill in properly with a biro and then erase the pencil underneath. Much neater.
