thyroid problems?

My doctor called today and said I have thyroid problems. I dont seem to have any of the sympoms but did have a blood test that pointed him in this direction. My question is, will it fix its self in time? I was thinking that I might should wait till there is more proof, maybe in the form of effects. I really don't know anything about this problem but do know I hate to take meds. because I have a bad liver due to hep-c

Sorry to hear about your health issues CK.

Regarding the thyroid problems, I really think you need to get more details from your GP/Medic. Thyroid problems could mean Hypothyroidism or Hyperthyroidism, both of which have different outcomes and treatments.

I have an underactive thyroid which was discovered after blood tests were taken due to uncontrollable tiredness & severe weight gain.

I have to take thyroxine every day for the rest of my life ~ I am not worried about this as all I am doing is putting a much needed hormone into my body.

As Lazygun has said you need to have a good chat with your doctor about your thyroid problem. I doubt it is something that will fix itself & it should be sorted quite quickly. Good luck.

If your doctor has taken the trouble to phone you he must be concerned .
I agree with pippa68 on this .I was exactly the same and also have to take levothyroxine for the rest of my life. After the horrible year I had last year I am glad to take it !
Your doctor will start you on the lowest dose anyway and monitor you from there.

Thyroid problmes can be masking other things like SLE (Lupus) get checked and take the tablets, you will feel fine

shaneystar2 ~ it's great isn't it? I buried my head in the sand & suffered for a very long time. My dosage is still monitored & it has had to bve raised a couple of times over the last year but I feel so much better..like a new woman :o)

My thyroid has been monitored for a few years due to quite a big goitre and has now gone over the borderline into the underactive.I honestly couldnt work at this moment cos I am so tired.However my GP wants to defer the treatment for a year as I will be on it for the rest of my life - obviously not too drastic.You must be guided by your GP - they know what the counts mean - I dont and I suspect you wouldnt either.BTW - my liver isnt too hot either due to Hep A so I know how you feel about medication.Bite the bullet and just get it over with:)
