In may 2005, I posted a question asking if anyone else sees things that aren't really there. My question was referring to black spidery things running along the floor or desk, but that when you look again, there's nothing there.

This morning, nearly one year on, I received another answer, so thought I'd open up the thread again HERE to see if any newcomers have had similar experiences.

Good morning dmaxx, that must have been very scary for you - than kgoodness it was only tiredness.

Good morning & thank you too beryl, I'm feeling better as each days passes. I'm terrified of spiders too, but a couple of weeks ago I was sitting on the sofa when I instinctively pulled my knees up to my chin as I swear I saw a mouse run across the room & under the armchair. My husband heard me scream out, but he couldn't find anything - so we put it down to me being tired! (Hopefully). I wish we still had a cat like you, Smudge would have soon sorted out any intruders!

*thank goodness
Do you binge drink smudge? I have exerienced this many times but usually 2 or 3 days after a heavy drinking session. I also get the 'floater' ones in my vision but are nothing like the illusive spider/cockroach ones.

Hi Philby - no I'm glad to say I don't binge drink! I may have the odd brandy or sherry at Christmas time, or on very special occasions! Also the occasional lager & lime on a very hot day, or on holiday!

With me, I truly think seeing things that aren't there is all down to being tired, because it's the only time I get it.

Tiredness it is then............ I really must try and cut down on my awake hours :-)

Hi There Smudge! :o) How are you?

Hasn't this happened before with people answering your threads a year on? lol

I too see things, sometimes justified, like you say the spiders are starting to pop out more now. I found out that this was one of the symptoms of anxiety! which I suffer from, not so much now but if I forget my tablets a few days in a row I start seeings things crawling up the wall or over the duvet, only once or twice has it actually been a spider. I think from my anxiety I am actually a lot more scared of spiders and jump much more easily now. My poor hubby will be suffering from a nervous disorder before long if I suddenly jump and scream at nothing on the wall again!!!!

I hope your feeling well and chipper Smudge :o)

At least you can hear them coming beryllium, but my God they must be huge if you can hear their tiny feet!

lol, wingnut, wood floors and i'm very attuned to the blumin things!!! and, yes, they are massive. Some that mr. B. catches are too big for a normal drinking glasses and they leap about in a very bad mood in the glass we catch them in, before they are deposited in the garden...

Used to live in a flat, no spiders and now we've moved to a farm cottage, where they were here first!!! the farmer next door finds it hilarious.....

OMG beryllium! I don't know how you cope! I have slowly got worse over the years that sometimes I can sense them before I see them, like I'm intune with them, unless I'm seeing things of course! lol

We used to live in tied accommodation when my husband worked on a farm so had fields all around us. The house had hardly been lived in apart from the spiders! One night my hubby was working late on the farm and I was sat up in bed, watching telly, about 11pm with my eldest daughter who was 1yr old then. Suddenly from behind the wardrobe the biggest spider I have ever seen came scuttling out! I am not kidding it was bigger than a dinner plate!!! I scooped up my daughter and ran down stairs screaming! We never did find it and people don't believe me when I say how bloomin' big it was!

I'm that scared of them that I have stretched a pair of tights over our vents to stop them getting in!

Hi all, Its definately due to over tiredness. I too see spiders and the occasional mouse zipping by me. Its odd that we all "See" the things we fear eh?:-))

Hey Smudge, just keeping you entertained with spider stories....

Wingnut, I know exactly where you're coming from, thats why i scream now at shadows.... and then, cue the music from Jaws.... the real thing comes to say hello.....

The fields aren't big enough for them...hehe

Hi smudge. I am toatally dismayed that nobody has suggested the obvious answer to your question. Many people see what you do, it it caused by cells on the watery membrane of your eyes floating accross your cornea, known as 'floaters'. The reason why they suddenly dissapear when you look again is because you have blinked, thus replacing/ moisturising the membrane again, moving off the floaters.

For people who dont usually experience this, which is extremley common, stare at a window in the day time (when it si bright outside) and you will see these dark spidery shapes floating accross your eye. Its normal, though do try and sleep more and check for anaemia

i'll put mine down to tiredness, too much diazepam and baclofen.......

and....captain paranoia.........hehe......

i love mice smudge..... are you going to get a little kitten?....

If i squint my eyes hard i can see little silvery blood cell looking things moving, they disappear when i try to look at them.
Hi nancie, No offence intended. I think we're all aware that we have floaters but im many cases its tiredness and also people on certain meds such as tranquilliser's and anti depressants of which I've been on both. These meds can actually cause "Mini Hallucination's". especially when over tired:-)
I have got a floater in my left eye, appeared about a year ago, very annoying, I often think I have a fly buzzing round my eye or a spider dangling in my hair and go to brush it away and realize its my floater!
