1 Down An American band (5) ?o?s? explanation for any answers please.

Am also stuck on bottom left corner of the puzzle if anyone out there doing it. I have spotcheck for 14 down but rest of the corner is blank

Thanks for those Gen 2, Still working on 15 and 27 across plus the dreaded 1 down.

1d I'm assuming this one is Sousa (who wrote 'The Stars and Stripes Forever' and many other marches (remember Monty Python?))

Thanks again for 27 and to Tenter for the possible Sousa for 1 Down - will probably settle for that. Just 15 across to go. ('Not red? Rot, Ned,' he said (7) ?p?o?e?
