pre-decimal British Postage Stamps

I have several sheets of 1960's mint commemorative postage stamps. I feel that it would be a good idea to use some 4d 1966 World Cup ones on an entry for a 2006 World Cup Competition as I believe, perhaps mistakenly, that this sort of thing can influence who is drawn from the hat. Are they still legal if I convert to decimal and put say, 20 x 4d stamps on the envelope with a small explanatory note for the Post Office?

2 things:

doubt it would be seen by those who draw. They will do it "blind".

if England do well you may well be throwing away a fortune. Try selling a sheet on e-bay closer to the event and see the reaction.

I'm Scots so I could be wide of the mark but I wonder if interest will peak.

No they are not legal. The only pre-decimal stamps that are still valid for postage are those for whole numbers of pounds.

get them valued before you even take one off one of the sheets!

Thanks for your replies. It was just a whim which I now won't be following up. I'll probably put them on e-bay at the height of world cup fever.
