unexpected pleasures
There are many culinary joys to be had, but some of them are so unexpected that you almost fall off your chair. My question for you is, what's the 'goddest' thing you've had, with ingredients that you would have never thought of combining, yourself. I'll give you two examples of mine:
Toast with a thin layer of Marmite, covered with banana 'coins' (sorry, don't know the right word, but you see what I mean - slices.)
For Christmas, in Sweden we serve glgg, a red, sweet glhwein served hot with raisins and peeled almonds. Traditionally we also have gingerbread (the cookies, not the cake) with that. Some years ago someone discovered how miraculously tasty it is to put some 'mouldy cheese' on these cookies - the sweet glgg and the salty cheese - m-m-m...! (Again, I don't know the right word for 'mouldy cheese', but it's creamy and either blue or green - like for instance roquefort - ah you know the sort.)
(By the way, I'm not sure that Swedish gingerbread cookies are the same as the British - someone said there's more ginger and less clove in yours. I don't know if that's the case, or whether it has any bearing on this 'recipe'.)
