malware, spyware, trojan removal

I've just had a problem with malware on my PC.. Im Running AVG free and Zone alarm Firewall but somehow this software managed to attack my computer.. I tried to kill it using Ad-Aware SE and Spybot search & destroy without any luck.. Ive been reading threads posted on here about other AB'ers having a similar problem and an answer suggested the best way to get rid of it was to use my PC's "System Restore" tool.. I tried this and it did the trick.. (No more malware and my homepage was back and not about-blank)

What i want to know is, is there a chance that the virus, malware is still in my system sleeping to re-appear at a later date or have i got rid of it for good?

Best way to do this is to download HijackThis. Run a scan and post the resulting log file on the many forums that exist (Web User is a good one) . There experts will examine it and let you know if there's any unwanted files still present and how to remove them.

It will also be in the backup files at the time/date of the appropriate restore point .to get rid of it totally from this system restore point, you could turn off restore, run all the Anti Virus and Spyware programmes and ensure the PC is "clean" Then turn Restore back on, which leaves you with just the one new and clean restore point and which then deletes all the others(including the bad files) - I would only do this though if youre happy that everything is OK (it also saves you a bit of disc space:-))
