necessity = must
rescue vessel = ark (coming up = kra)
in case of = surrounded by

so kra surrounded by mus...t = muskrat

yes, passenger on ark = Shem (son of Noah)
Rejected drinking = teetotal
first (ie first letter of teetotal = T
rejected = anagram, so anagram of Shem + T = meths
