Rhapsody, Melody, Ballad and Odditty are all musical terms, well, they are very losely, but that would be the link.

delboy3 you're on the right lines and your answer is correct. However I'm looking for something else in this instance. All have charted more than once except The Ballad of etc, at least two have been number 1 twice, one has been Number one four times by four different artists but only one failed to reach Number 1 on its original issue.

There is a fifth No 1 from the 70's that could be included in the original question. Any ideas. A clue is, the singer is dead.

Bohemian Rhapsody was No 1 in 1975 & 1991

Unchained Melody was a No 1 in 4 versions: Jimmy Young (1955), Righteous Brothers (1990), Robson & Jerome (1995) & Gareth Gates (2002)

Space Oddity reached No 5 on its original release (1969) and No 1 in 1975

The fifth? Might be "My Sweet Lord" by George Harrison (No 1 in 1971 & 2002)

You're not right with that one delboy3. Further clues would include; he was an American who has sold over 60 million albums worldwide to-date. Amazingly enough in the UK he was a genuine one hit wonder with this 'mystery' No 1 song. Whether he charted again in more recent times I cannot say.

An instrumental version also made the UK top 5.

So, what is this tune?

yer man with the golden flute James Galway also had a hit with it

I would have thought I was right with George Harrison - the song was No 1 in the 70s and No 1 again after he'd died

delboy3 is right with Annie's Song. As for My Sweet Lord the song has been No 1 twice as you say but it also contains the lyrics 'My Sweet Lord' so doesn't meet the criteria of the original link.
