I can find the newsreader knighted in 1981-well I think I have,if he has a three letter surname,but I cannot find anybody earlier

Could you possibly provide a further clue,other than the clue you gave in an earlier posting,about reaching great heights in television,which I took as a clue but didn't do a lot for me

Twas I who posted the clue about reaching great heights in tv. It was a genuine clue and you can't go much higher than this.
