Hi,
What does it mean when you can access a web page using the IP Address but not the web address?
Its me and my BBC problems again - I've found that I can go to http://212.58.227.78 but not to www.bbc.co.uk
I've been told that this could be a DNS server problem??? Can this be fixed?
Why would this start happening after about a year of using it, then suddenly not able to access the site?
Could it have anything to do with it being away for repair - replaced keyboard, as it was fine before that and we've only been having the problem since it came back!
A xXx

Note it has NO extention, it is just called HOSTS.
If it really is bad or corrupt, then rename it to something like HOSTS.OLD, do NOT DELETE IT you may need it again.
Then use a text editor like notepad to create a new file called hosts in the same directory and make sure the only text in it is:
127.0.0.1 localhost
Double check it does not have an extension like txt. If so rename it so it is just called hosts.
Then switch off and switch back on your machine and it should pick up the new hosts file.
Some viruses and other programs do try to update your hosts file to redirect you to their sites, so it could be you have a virus on your machine.
