12 Days of Christmas response

Here is a seasonal one! A few years ago I heard this thing on the radio which was a response from the recipient of all the gifts in the Christmas song. It was in the form of a letter after each gift from the 'true love', so it starts of romantic and friendly and gradually builds to increduality (along the lines of 'I suppose 10 lords a leaping is your idea of a joke')

It is very funny but I haven't a clue who wrote it. Any ideas?

I've got a very funny version of the 12 days of Christmas by the bloke who plays Father Jack (****!) in Father Ted. Of course I can't put my hands on the CD right now, it appears to be missing in action, but will see if I can find it.

I've found it on t'internet! http://www.irishmusicmail.com/ If you look under comedy you will find Frank Kelly, the song is called Christmas Countdown and has the recipient starting off being flattered, but the number of birds and the fights they have along with the vets bill drive him potty and his Mother ends up in a home for the bewildered!

Are you sure you're not thinking of "Yet Another Partridge In A Pear Tree" by Brian Sibley, performed immaculately by the splendid Penelope Keith? For my money that knocks the Kelly thing into the proverbial cocked hat; it's witty, urbane, sophisticated - everything the Kelly offering isn't. I'm sure if you Google for it you'll find a full text somewhere.

Yep, the Penelope Keith one was the one that I heard on the radio, though the two versions on the monologues also have their merits.

There is also a book by John Julius Norwich - with illustrations by Quentin Blake - called The 12 Days of Christmas, which seems to fit the bill
