Hi all. It's the wife's 30th soon and I think she wants to change her wedding & engagement ring from Gold to White Gold. What would be the best thing to do?, I've heard that they can just dip them in white gold; is this true or will they need new bands altogether? Thanking you
ive never heard of the being dipped in white gold thing - when i bought my engagement ring from an antique shop, it was yellow gold, but i wanted white, so i had the shank changed - it cost about 70 quid. I dont know how you would do a wedding ring - after all if you changed the shank, it would just be a new ring!
i would go to a jewellers and ask
Dipping it would just be like 'plated' wouldnt it?
I changed mine, but got new ones and keep the others on a chain, tried white gold but it made my finger go funny, couldnt wear it,luckily they took it back! Its the stuff in the white gold apparently, hope your wife is ok with hers anyway!!
Hiya I had loads of old gold that i dont wear anymore so when i was getting married i asked the jeweller if he could melt it down and change it to white gold, unfortunately they cant do it. white gold is actually a very faint gold and it needs to be rhodium plated evry couple of years to keep it looking white. it only costs about a tenner to have it re-plated. So you could always buy her a new wedding and engagement ring.... if you have the money that is.
I wouldn't bother with white gold, as it just looks the same as silver, so why not buy silver ? No-one can see the marking inside whilst it's on your finger, so who would know the difference ?
Put white gold next to silver and it looks goldy, put it next to gold and it looks silver, but my new ones are silver cos i couldnt wear the white gold, but thats the colour i wanted and i'm perfectly happy with them!
if considering buying a whole new ring white gold is not the best option (what with illergic reactions and having to re-plate it every so often as mentioned)
you could try platinum, it looks very similar to white gold but with less of a hassel
