How many letters
Is it lipizzaner - i think that's an italian name?
Question Author
Number of letters is irrelevant, it`s a straight quiz qestion.

I tried Lipizzaner already and it takes its name from the town of Lipizza near Trieste.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
Think what you may be looking for is an Italian pony called the Avelignese
Question Author
Thanks City Grounder. I`ll follow that one up, it`s certainly not one I have seen previously.
I don't think that's quite the answer...Avelignese comes from the town Avelengo in the Alto Adige, and has nothing to do with the neapolitan word for a short stout person! It's the Italian version of the Austrian Haflinger. Presumably the horse you're looking for will come from the Naples region rather the Alps.

Hi Kettledrum,

Thanks...I`d rather come to that conclusion with my search last night. Plenty of time to find it still!
Hi S. O. Only alternative i can find is horse called the Salerno ( town south of Naples) but this stands about 16 hands, so therefore not got short legs. But the Avelignese is descibed as---- deep thru girth with wide chest, well muscled neck and quarters, short legs and a short broad head , stands 13.3 to 14.3 hh.
