Well see if I can explain 'He thinks he's so important! (6) ??NGOD I put sungod, If oxtail is correct ,it would look like this ?LNGOD (the NGOD all tie in)
And if it is Oxtail then 'Goddess lords over the animals.' (5,3,5) would look like ?L?X? A?D ?A?N?

Hi Jane - Thanx for your message but alas I think you are now gridlocked! This usually means one or more answers will have to be replaced.

Regarding ??NGOD how can you guarantee these letters, as there wouldn't normally be four adjacent interconnecting clues? If these letters are bullet-proof then 'SUNGOD' is all that would fit and in my opinion the clue is naff. ?LNGOD is obviously a non-runner which then puts OXTAIL in question, although I can't think of a better alternative

More accurate than SUNGOD would have been TIN GOD (3,3) which Chambers defines as 'a self-important dictatorial person' BUT it is not a 6 letter word. Shame!

I can't think of an answer to ?L?X? A?D ?A?N? so once again you may have to change OXTAIL unless any other letters can be altered.
