Anyone know if there is a time limit in the following secenario? Alleged Crime July 2005, charged November 2005, initial appearance before Magistrates dec 2005, plead not guilty, trial set for March 2006, witness not available, reset for July 2006, witness (different one) not available, reset for Nov 2006. Anyone know how long this can go on? Is there any time limit for the trial to take place? Is there perhaps a time when the CPS will drop it? Thanks

I think it'll depend on the type of alleged crime.... public interest will be taken into account and eventually the courts may get fed up but as I said it would depend on the type of crime - CPS will be a lot happier to drop an allegation of shoplifting than murder.

plus there is no way the CPS will drop the case until they have wasted at least a million pounds of tax payers money preparing for it!!!

Be fair... the million pounds will be spent preparing for it and dropping it.
