According to the Concise Oxford Dictionary of Proverbs "It is a long lane that has no turning" is commonly used as an assertion that an unfavourable situation will eventually change for the better. The first noted usage is in 1633: "Long runns that neere turnes", and in 1732, 1748, 1849, and 1945, so it has been around for some time. Let's hope it is true!
