Morning all,
I have two dogs, Max a Staffy Cross (about 8yrs old, rescue dog we have had since 1999) and Bingo, born November 16th 1995, a small tri-colour mongrel. I also have a Tom cat called Tom who was born July 27th 1997. Tom is primarily an outdoor cat and a little bit Ferrel actually, he tolerates me but is not very human friendly, but he is very big, and his jaws are huge he is an excellent predator.
All three animals are neutered, and have been since young. My query is, why, after they have all been in the same home for most of their lives, and when they see each other every day and all day, and sleep in the same place and in the same format, (dog and cat owners will know what i mean lol) why, every single morning when I let Max and Bingo out, do both dogs chase Tom across the garden barking like loonies and Tom has to race for his life up over the fence? At no other time of the day do they do this and they all get on fine all day long. it is like they have their own personal groundhog day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think its just a bit of amusement for the dogs, a little spurt of energy to start the day.
I wouldn't be surprised if Tom gets some 'fun' out of it, too. Like when they're released outside, they have a little play in their undomesticated cat and dog roles.
They have to keep their reputation in front of the other dogs and cats..... : ))
