Not sure if this is the best topic but no others seem appropriate.
The urgent distress call Pan Pan (the one down from Mayday for when there is no immediate risk to life), is it pronounced Pan as in Peter Pan, or Paahn, as in smarm? Thanks.
All emergency code words, for use internationally as a distress signal in voice procedure radio communications, derive from French and so should be pronounced as the French would.
Pan-pan (from panne, breakdown) is pronounced with a short "a".
