i am thinking of a 10 digit number . if i put 1 to the left of the first figure and a 1 to the right of its last figure i get the same result as if i multiply the number by 33

what number am i thinking of

Hi Bobo -
Have you tried Google's built-in calculator? This is great for loooooooooooong numbers which won't fit on your desk calculator. Just enter the numerals into Google's search field, using + - * /
then press 'enter'.

e.g.
Add: 12345 + 22
Subtract: 345.65 - 23.45
Multiply: 567.432 * 934
Divide: 34783 / 234.21

Solved by simple algebra.
Let x = the unknown 10-digit number

10x + 100000000001 = 33x
therefore
23x = 100000000001
therefore
x = 100000000001/23
x = 4347826087

Yes, SIMPLE algebra.

It involved only one variable 'x'

It involved no powers of that variable

it was an equation similar to:
2x + 6 = 4x

and you can't get much simpler than that !
