I couldn't sleep last night so flicked on the TV at about 2.30am this morning and there was a quiz where you had to add the numbers together something like this:

nineteen minus five +
3 + 4 x 2 =
6 - 5 =

the clue was add the numbers

the prize was 54,000 did anyone win and does any one know the answer, people were ringing in with answers which varied from -1 to thousands.

sorry nineteen minus five =

I didn't watch it, but it drives me mad when those quiz programmes have a "add all the numbers" game....I've never waited up long enough to hear what the actual answer is, but I just really don't understand how they work them out. Every possible way of doing it that I can work out is never right!
the programme is a con - they charge about 75p per call regardless, if you get through or not. the word games are the worst, i swear they only put people through once they have made enough profit after the prize money. and who actually knows if the person on the other end of the phone isnt in the production room????
Also whenever i see those number puzzles i would guess at this for the answer 43
there was an article quite recently

They hardly ever reveal the answer. If a riddle (and I use the term wrongly!!) is not answered with what they consider to be the correct answer then they say that they'll return to it at a later date - as if anyone will ever get their answer then either!!!

If you check the quizzes and Puzzles section, I have had an answer there, I would never in a million years have worked it out like that.

thanks for the replys I think I will read a book next time
Julie,
One night The Mint had one of these, so many answers including all the ones I could think of all wrong. So I recorded the programme until close at 4am.

Got up wizzed through it at about 03:30 they stopped it with no answer given and started a new question. No wonder the "give" away so much money.
Stevee, surely is that not illegal is some way?? The shower of b**t**ds.
