I don't know the answer to Question one but I do have the same quiz
The clue, C for instance etc. the answer has only 7 letters a one word answer

With reference to No. 1, I have a gut feeling that the Yorkshire town is THIRSK and the 7-lettered name has the form THI??RS (like SQUIRES). Any thoughts out there?

I can't make sense of "C for instance" except for CIE or CEG!

Crofter - Q1. . . Been thinking maybe C for 'Charlie' (NATO lingo), i.e. Charles, 'most of Charlestown', Yorkshire? A bit convoluted but just round the corner from you! What do you reckon? ja

johnalex - I like the idea of C = Charlie, but the link to the yorkshire town is tenuous. Who would be your character? Not (I think) Charlie BUCKET of Wonka fame. He would be clued as (7,6).
