Evening Snowgirl ... One actress who played Maria in 'The Sound of Music' on stage did boxing to increase her fitness. Mentioned on the Maria show in the last couple of weeks. Can't remember the name of actress. Is this what you wanted ? xx

Had a quick look at the site above and it asks for the sport that Mary Martin took up . Mary Martin died in 1990 so I don't think it refers to anyone recent .

I am puzzled what you are trying to say bridgenut. The fact that Mary Martin died in 1990 does not preclude her from having taken up boxing in order to improve her stamina for the original Sound of Music. Which is what the question is asking for.
