does anyone have any tried and tested alternatives when a recipe asks for mixed fruit. my problem is that i do not eat sultana's or raisin's. So what can I use for an alternative and would the quantities still be the same as for mixed fruit.
You could buy bags of individual dried fruit...pineapple, mango, passion fruit etc and mix them together. It would cost a fortune though.
Your best bet would be to have a good look in the baking section of the local supermarket or health food shop such as Julian Graves http://www.juliangraves.com/ who sell some good alternative fruit mixes.
Depends what type of recipe it is. If it's for say cakes, such as rock cakes, then I find choc chips are a fab alternative to fruit, not as healthy I admit, but very tasty and I tend to put in a bit more than the recipe states. Other good alternatives are coconut, dried pineapple, small chunks of apple, lemon and orange peel, cherries etc.
