12ac Stouth ... Stout (h)

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/stouth
21d. tewart - (s)tewart - a eucalyptus tree
kettledrum, I thought that " tewart " should be the answer, but was unable to find it within on-line dictionary. May I ask where you found the definition?

Thanks to sarumite and kettledrum -- would never have found those answers
Sarumite, it's in Chambers ( I don't use anything else! ) as a variant spelling of tuart.

Have you done 8d.? I don't entirely understand the clue so consequently don't know what the last letter should be...ostracod + a / e / s ? Otherwise I'm sorted.
Thank you kettledrum, I really must obtain a copy asap.
Afraid I'm unable to help on 8d as I don't have this crossword, but Ostracoda is the subclass to which Ostracod belong. (not sure if that will be of any assistance).
Sarumite, make sure you get the NEW 10th edition. I really couldn't manage without it.
Kettledrum...it's ostracoda, as 'ostraca' are pottery sherds and 'do' backwards is within that.
I should have added above that you will find the word under the heading 'ostrakon'.
Thank you very much Quizmonster. Can't think why I couldn't see ( literally ) that....ostrakon is 2 below & ostracise is 1 above ostracod in Chambers. Ah well! I'd got myself obsessed with orts - fragments, though not of pottery.
