At the risk of being shot down in flames - PLEASE can someone give me a clue to Nos.54 and 22. I have read most of the previous comments etc. about asking for help too soon which I understand, but this is a charity quiz, I have 5 remaining to answer and I just need a thought/idea to give me a different direction. I am more than happy to give clues to any of those I've answered to anyone who asks. THANK YOU.
I don't think you will really need more hints for 22 as the clue is pretty straightforward by comparison to some of the others. But you may be using the wrong stress on records.
Quizmonkey The meaning of Charity Quiz if not already abundantly clear to most of us, has also been more than adequately explained by Masterchef in a previous posting, so why waste time and space with further diversionary tactics.
Many of us for many reasons do not have the time to wait for imposed deadlines. We prefer to interact throughout all of the three month period , thus making full use of the website.
Don't accuse me of diversionary tactics - I couldn't give a flying **** who enters or how many have scalped the answers off other people. Most of them are so dense that the chances are they have half the other answers wrong anyway.
Giving the quiz's charity status as an excuse for laziness (yes, there are still six weeks) is a total irrelevance: the only charity element is that it's a fund-raiser; it does not demand that people be charitable with idle entrants.
And that's a very creative use of the word interact.
Many thanks to gen2, Magic1 (for defending me!) and Coppins Crew for genuine help. Why do people have to be so vitriolic i.e. Quizmonkey? I have been doing the Rainbow Quiz for many years and the worst score achieved has been 98. So I think to suggest that my giving this quiz charity status is an excuse for laziness and then sugesting that I might have half the answers wrong, is frankly rude and unhelpful. I look forward to receiving this quiz twice yearly, but I'm sure that I'm not alone in that you get stuck on a particular clue and a little guidance in a different direction would be much appreciated. People send in queries about other quizzes, the answers of which could be easily 'googled'. No one seems to get stuck into them. So enough said.................
Your last remark surprises me, but before this develops into a slanging match, I think you're missing the point. This is a quiz, hopefully it's enjoyable and it makes you think and whether there are 6 weeks to go or a fortnight, a nudge in a different direction might be of help - surely this is what this site is all about?? As regards the charity bit, I would politely suggest that you look at the definition of charity in the dictionary.
Lapis - if some ABers want to impose deadlines on the giving of answers ... no problem .... all can amke their own decision to post answers or not .....
More importantly ..... if some Abesr wish to continue to try to solve questions themselves .... no problem .... they do not have to look at any answers given.
I am prepared to give answers, if i know them ....
Clue 54:
gen2 has helped .... the last two words 4, 5 are an anagram of the clue.
Once you have got these two words .... then you are looking for an 8 letter word that is an activity similar to sewing .... this 8 letter word is suggestive of an anagram of the answer for the 4, 5 words.
The whole three letters in the clue, then is a well-known phrase that is said when someone 'frowns'
Clue 22:
'Records' looking for a 5 letter word that was an old medium for recording music
Then a 3 letter word for a 'game score' (e.g a run as in cricket ... but that's not the answer wanted here)
These 8 letters (5+3) then spell another word .... which is a leaisure pursuit .... for fabrication think in terms of fabric.
Happy to help with others .... and more assist with these if you do not get them with existing clues.
Oh dear... Lapis, your accusing me of missing the point and not understanding something is laughable.
In your original question you wrote: "I have read most of the previous comments etc. about asking for help too soon which I understand, but this is a charity quiz".
My question was not "what does charity mean?" but why you are using "but this is a charity quiz" to justify your post. It's very sad that such a simple question needs to be explained in words of one syllable, but there you go.
