Welcome to Title Builder Beta.

This small piece of kit is designed to make building your Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle question more effective. It should make finding your question easier for others and, the easier it is to find, the more likely someone is to answer it!

To build an easy to find question title simply select the paper and quiz, enter the quiz number if relevant and fill in the Publication Date. Once you’re happy click “Build Title” and the information should populate the Title field. Fill in the final required details of your question as you normally would, and click submit.

As this is a Beta we only have a limited number of papers and quizzes listed. If you think your favourite Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle should be listed here don’t hesitate to contact us.

Remember: You do not have to use the title builder - simply enter the title and question as you normally would and click submit!

Formerly powerful in America brings to mind Getty..but I can't tie that to a golf ball or anything to do with golf !!

Shaney I was thinking along similar lines with John Gotti- the Mob boss. As you say it is difficult to tie to the clue but being an advanced cryptic it's not supposed to be easy.

kayakamina: If it's advanced cryptic then ignore my Butte. I based it on the Chambers definition of Butte plus there being an Isle of Butte in Scotland. But hardly qualifies as cryptic.

I have now got 30a Ettle... a Scottish word meaning purpose. (S) ettle.

That means that 25d is ?ett?. Must be Shaney's Paul Getty but why?

kayakamina - Sorry for jumping in with that GENRE explanation, but I really wanted to bring to the attention of the "poster" that he asked for a 6-lettered word, when the answer had only 5 letters!

That was a silly error on his part that was unnecessary.
