I am compiling a picture round of authors. However because most people are clueless about what authors look like I am going to pitch 80% of them as those who are famous for other things eg Madonna,Ben Elton etc. I would prefer if they were genuine authors and had written mote than one book. I am also not interested in people whose only attempt at authorship is an autobiography

Stephen Fry.
Brian Blessed has written books about his adventures.
Michael Palin has written travel books and a novel called Hemingway's Chair.
Hugh Laurie wrote a novel called The Gunseller.
Terence Stamp wrote a novel called The Night.
Ron Ely (Tarzan in the TV series) has written a number of novels but I don't think they were published in England.
Richard E Grant wrote a novel called By Design and has published his film diaries.
Bruce Boxleitner has written a couple of novels, again I don't think they have been published here.
Alan Coren is a prolific author (and he's appeared on plenty of TV shows, so people should know his face).

If you count poets among authors, then Pam Ayres and Roger McGough are fairly familar figures.

If you want to include some non-fiction, then Stephen Hawkin has a well-known face.

Sticking with non-fiction, just about any celebrity chef should match your requirements. (Delia Smith, perhaps?)

David Niven wrote several books.

Winston Churchill was awarded the Nobel prize for literature.

Staying with politicians, but definitely not at nobel prize level ;-) , what about Jeffrey Archer?

Alan Titchmarsh has written several novels.

Chris
Meera Syal.
Sandi Toksvig.
Arabella Weir.
Rupert Everett 'The Hairdressers of St. Tropez' and other(s) I believe
Arnold Ridley, aka Private Godfrey in Dad's Army was an established playwright. He wrote The Ghost Train years before he introduced us to 'his sister Dolly'.

Many thanks to you all. I also do a themed picture round but, except for Madonna, Sarah Ferguson and Jamie Lee Curtis I was struggling. However I should probably be ashamed at knowing who Bruce Boxleitner is!!

Alexi Sayle
Paul Hendy
Never be shamed by knowledge of things,it's what makes us who we are - however strange that may be.
Edwina Currie, Douglas Hurd and Rupert Allason (aka Nigel West) are all politicians who have written novels
Jeremy Paxman has written a few books. I can think of 'The English' and 'The Political Animal. I think he has just released another, but I am unsure of the title.
