The term also means a huntsman or rifleman.

81. A pioneer of boogie-woogie piano, born in Chicago in 1901. I have an answer that begins in Y but a date of 1898. Has anyone got a Y with 1901, if so I need to look again. xx
earthakitten - shaneystar seems sure, and that's good enough for me! It's just that I've never come across that usage before in spite of having lived in Germany on and off for about 25 years. Still, if you found it on a list of unusual words I probably wouldn't expect to be familiar with it. (would someone - shaneystar ? - tell me how to do umlauts)
